Growing up or growing out

Growing up years are so much fun. School, competition, those bruises while playing sports, a tab of innocence with a dust of envy, the fragility etc, so many emotions and situations and yet they are the best years and you want to revisit them so often ๐Ÿ™‚ Then comes this scary phase when you are neither a child nor an adult! Absolutely hanging in the air, trying to figure out things. Confusion becomes your pal, your choices are many a times weird, impulsiveness becomes your second nature, indecisiveness is a result of perpetual wonder. OMG! feels like the world is coming tumbling down. And then there is this phase when you are all grown up like the ripened fruit. Your decisions are respected, advice acknowledged, choices accoladed. Feels like never being out of this phase, but then such is life. Phases and changes are a part of what we define as life. It can’t get stagnant and if it does, then there is some problem which you need to immediately fix.

While growing up is fun and full of memories, growing out is crazy. Friends are a major part of most people’s lives- social beings that we are. Giving a listening ear to someone in trouble or crisis is an essential element of friendship, which I am sure if not all but most of us do. Well I have always given a listening ear to my friends (though I am a chatter box myself), and well, I am not the agony aunt sorts. I suddenly realised one day, that the weirdest things my friends would tell me and think I would judge them, seems to be just another situation which needs to be dealt with. And then I started thinking to myself, am the weird types myself or have I just grown out of the years where things seem to be odd or incorrect? I remember as a teenager when one of my friends confided in me and told me that she lost her virginity and loved the fact, my jaw just dropped open in shock. I started telling her how it was not right and how it could lead to pregnancy or she might even get STD. Every time I think about this instance, I have a hearty laugh and my hubby refuses to believe I was so innocent :P. Jokes apart, nothing seems to shock me anymore. I have had a friend telling me something like being in this habit of changing boyfriends every quarter, because she gets bored with the guy, which is obviously a little to odd to digest. But I dint find it odd, instead gave her an easier solution to kill her boredom. Not that I can give solutions all the time, but sometimes the bulb in my grey cells just lights up :D. And a couple of days back when I was walking back home I was thinking to myself, is it odd that I don’t find things odd or have I just grown out of the weird feeling phase? Dint get an answer yet, but that’s fine, coz I read somewhere I guess, that instant solutions to problems of answers to questions are nothing but a frame of mind! Ouch scary!

From no sense of style to making one’s own fashion statements, every woman has this chapter registered forever in her life. The day a woman graduates from an eye blinker to a head turner, is wow I achieved it day for her. Who doesn’t like compliments? – here men and women alike! God has definitely made every being on earth in his own likeness and image, but yet humans distinguish, judge and assume about people by their appearance, which I think is a very shallow thing to do. But on a lighter note, girls love to dress. And if I am not wrong, most men have this misconception that women dress to impress them. But that is not the truth! Most women dress up or look beautiful not to impress men all the time (though we enjoy the attention especially when we are head turners), it is the confidence and the self appreciation that she enjoys. Who wants to be judged all the time? Let the fashion critics do their job. So what if I may not be as curvacious as Kim Kardashian, I am miss beautiful in my own way ๐Ÿ™‚ Those nice little things about a woman that sets her apart is so admirable. And the greatest blessing that God has bestowed on a woman – being able to give life and bring a new being into this world (of course the contribution by men is absolutely essential) is the ultimate gift in disguise. Well yes it comes with a package of hormonal changes, weight gain, mood swings etc., but I am sure the feeling is supreme and amazing ๐Ÿ™‚

Well I know it is neither women’s day nor mother’s day, but who wants a day to feel special. Every day is special in a women’s life and with both my hands up in the air- yayayayayyyyy to all the women for being the woman they are ๐Ÿ™‚

The nEW agE mediA

While most of us ponder and strive every single day to enhance our client servicing and put our best foot forward, we often tend to forget that the most important aspect of our communication activities is to build relations and augment our connections. With the most of us being active on various social networking sites (SNS), it is a very easy and simple to keep in touch with people and create a database of people who are the key players in the communication industry.

I am sure most of us are aware of the various social networking sites, otherwise known as the new age media, and not only are a part of it but also religiously use them. But then the question here is are we effectively using these SNS? Most of us hardly spend time for obvious reasons, that we are too caught up with our day to day work. But then when we visit these sites at leisure, what do we look for? Entertainment, fun, keeping in touch with our school or college friends? But SNS today is much more beyond that. Looking at the present scenario where SNS is growing with leaps and bounds, one cannot afford stay away from it.

A few statistics below will give a clearer picture of the SNS and their popularity:

Worldwide SNS has increase by 25% and to quantify this the number of users have increased from 0.46 billion to 0.58 billion from June 2008 till now.

Figures keep changing and growing, but the point is where are we heading to? To put it this way, it opens a worldwide forum where, interaction, knowledge sharing and voyeurism will be enclosed within one finite space, where casual visiting, twittering and eavesdropping would merge to the point of being indistinguishable.

How to enhance the usage of social media?

This is a very common question most of us wonder. Of course it is not easy to maintain keep updating ten accounts. But yes the only solution is to alternate. When I say alternate, it means switch in between using these sites, for the only reason that one cannot not miss out on being on the various SNS, or at least the most chased after the sought after at this point of time. Lets go this way: choose any 5 SNS and stick to those till the time you discover that they are worn out and some other SNS has taken over. To start with you can have accounts on Facebook, Orkut, Linkedin, Twitter, flickr. And most of us are aware of youtube which isย  under the concept of video hosting/rendering. I am sure most of us are aware of Facebook and Orkut so here a guide to Linkedin, twitter and flicker

So to all the people who read this, Happy social networking!

oNe lIFe tO lIVe!

” I wish for a wish,

sometimes its so hard to find, that perfect line,

If I had wings, I would fly and come to you,

Ifย ย  I were a cuckoo, I would sing a melody for you,

If I were a peacock, I would dance in the rain”

Well well well this is no romantic post…..Just that the little poet in me came out…..It was just the other day that one of my colleagues asked me, hey if you were not a public relations’ professional what would you be? And I told him 4-5 different things that I wanted to do…Or rather, let me put it across this way…. I wanted to pursue different careers and all of them seriously thought about and magnanimous in their own way…..

I wanted to join the army and gave my entrance for SSC (Short service commission) got through, but then due to emotional blackmail from home had to give it up!

After that I decided I wanted to be a journalist, broadcast and beย  investigative or crime reporter…..But then things dint materialize..

Then I thought chatter box that I am, I should try an RJ’s job….Went for audition, got shortlisted, but had to sign a contract for 2 years which I couldn’t do at that point of time as I was in my second year degree college and on vacations would go home….

All of this was when I was graduating and had to decide my career move very meticulously. Well people may think that I must be confused…No I was not at all confused nor am I confused now. Well its just that I wanted to have different careers at the same time….. If given a chance even now I would love to pursue all of the above mentioned careers.

In fact many of us fall in 3 categories;

  1. I chose this career as it is the most chased and aspired in the market
  2. I happen to be in this field just by chance
  3. I chose this career because it pays me well

There could be hundred other reason as to why people choose to do what they are doing, but then most of us feel that we would have been better off or rather performed better if we were doing the things which we were passionate about. It could be dancing, sports, singing acting, modeling, making handicrafts or anything…It also has to with the societal norms, or parents to a great extentย  who push us to do the set agenda stuff….It has to be the mainstream things…If the kid is doing what is not regularย  education stuff and wants to pursue something different, parents gt paranoid and assume that their kid is good for nothing. Well I guess our generation at least will be different because of the kind of exposure and mentality that we have.

Only if we had an option that we could pursue various careers for a period of time , this world would have been a different place to live….But we have just one life and can achieve only a few things!

10 ways to get over your X……

Well I am sure everyone of us at some point of time have had a relation which dint really work (glad for those whose 1st relationship worked)……Not that we dint give our best each time we were in a relationship but I guess some things are just not meant to happen…but yes don’t we love to fall a prey becuase at that point of time we thought that was the right thing to do……Or maybe it was the most beautiful thing to do……Well only if life had to be so simple and if there were no twist and turns,ย  joy, sorrow, wickedness, playing pranks, adventure, embarassments, the kodak moment, the envy moments, lust, care …it would be so dull and mundane……..

Well I have a few ideas/suggestions to get over your ex-relations(which are v practicalย at a time when one feels shattered, heart broken )…..

  1. Everything happens for a reason, and believe that reason is for good
  2. You are the best and you desever someone really aweosme
  3. If you want to get over the relation completely its best not to be in touch with that person, because somewhere some thoughts linger around and makes you feel sad
  4. Just think of all the possible things that the person did to hurt you, which of course you dint desrve
  5. Go out, make new friends, change your routine, do things that make you feel good
  6. Pamper your self in very possible way
  7. Try not to be a loner
  8. Keep your mind involved in something or the other……If you just lie down and think you will miss him/her
  9. Try doing things that you never did before, go trecking, partying, pubbing or join dance clases or anything that gives you excitment
  10. And last but not the least, keep your hook ready, there are many fish in the pond ๐Ÿ™‚

And I appeared in the NEWS….

This was like every other day for me, when I would venture out to Forum Mall (shopping mall) which is 5 minutes walk from where I live…..It is one crowded place over the weekend, with stupid crowd, most of them being guys, who are there most of the times checking out girls, which is typical of guys….Well it is kind of an escape for me when I have nothing to do over the weekend, shopping, buying grossery…. In fact one of my very good friend calls it a railway station, which is an apt description of the place.

Well it was 26th of January 09, 5.30 pm, when I headed to the Mall, to shop. I somehow landed up in Landmark and was checking some dvds, when I could smell something burning….The first thing that struck my mind was is it some kind of terrorist attack, where they are planning to bomb this place….So I got out of Landmark and saw smoke around the food court, Transit…The security people where there and were asking people to immediately leave the place….Well things were managed pretty well….There wasnt much chaos and fire brigade was there within 10 minutes and the people were asked to evacuate and the entire situation was under control….I of course quickly moved out of the Mall and then headed toward home…

What I dint know was, that my quote with a big picture of mine would appear in one of the news publications (Mid-Day) two days after the incident….I normally spoke to a journalist who called me and asked what exactly happened and what was my experience…..But the only hitch was that my last name was printed incorrect….But guess its ok….
