Nothing else mattered when Metallica played in Bangalore!!!

After a wait of close to twenty long years, Metallica fans in India got an opportunity to witness their favorite rock band perform live. Metallica was slated to perform two shows in India – one in Delhi on the 29th of October & on 30th October in Bangalore. Unfortunately the Delhi concert got cancelled much to the disappointment of the fans who went berserk! But fortunately for Bangaloreans, the concert did take place and it was one helluva experience for me and the people who witnessed the concert.

Metallica coming to India was a dream come true for many many rock music and Metallica fans. India is a land of music and rock music definitely is a huge influence on teenagers and adults alike. In my husband’s words, ” I started listening to rock music after I heard Metallica at the age of 19″. Another friend of mine says, “amongst the many heavy rock metal bands, Metallica stands out for its style and music and so he loves it”. Bangalore has seen lot of rock concerts including Iron Maiden – twice, Deep Purple, Megadeth, Aerosmith, Lamb of God, Scorpions etc. and Metallica was the most awaited after all these concerts. The concert was expecting a crowd of 25-28 thousand people which went upto 35 thousand. Fans from Chennai, Kerala, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata & Delhi had come to witness the first ever concert of Metallica in Bangalore – India. One could spot fans with Metallica t-shirts, caps, banners and even Metallica name tattooed which was a spectacular view.ย  And oh it was crowded and crazy and NOTHING REALLY MATTERS WHEN METALLICA IS PERFORMING ๐Ÿ˜€

Well people had started gathering for the concert from 3 pm onwards, while Metallica was to perform at 8 pm. Despite the heavy showers of rain from 5.45 pm to 7.00 pm, fans reached and made it for the breathtaking performance. The band opened with Creeping Death which was followed by fade to black, fuel, sad but true, One, seek & destroy, Sanatorium, nothing else matters ….. James Hetfield, the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist was full of energy and so were the other members of the band. The crowd was singing, waving hands, clapping and shouting their lungs out to the Metallica. With fireworks to give the fiery effects to the songs, it was truly an experience of a lifetime!

Bangalore Metro – Rhetorical!

“History teaches us that men & nations behave wisely once they have exhausted all other alternatives” – Abba Eban

Finally the much awaited Namma Metro started operating on October 20, 2011, much after the set deadline which was March 30, 2010. I wonder at times why does Indian Government have deadlines at all? Who has ever adhered to them? Well I am sure our Government has enough and more funds to bear all the delays and of course the additional costs of everything, right from raw material to labour to interest rates on the borrowed amount from other countries!

After the smooth running Kolkata Metro & the successful Delhi Metro, the IT city of India decides to roll out its grand and ambitious metro project to alleviate traffic woes in the city. Definitely a great initiative by the government. But of course with the most corrupt politicians waiting for every opportunity to fill their pockets, how could one every think of metro starting its operations on the dot! I read in the newspapers that the approximate cost of Bangalore Metro with the delay comes upto Rs 6400 crores, and and this is the cost of phase-I which covers 8.7 kms. Phase-II has begun and the cost is estimated around Rs 25000 crore which will cover an area of 70 kms. Ambitious again! I know I am being extremely cynical here, but then the public at large, rich & poor alike have to bear the brunts of the corrupt practices of these politicians. Of what I read, (I would like to believe the media here, though they blow things out of proportion) and also heard from an insider (political house), Mr. E Sreedharan, the managing director of Delhi Metro was to take charge of the Bangalore Metro as well. But then, knowing his reputation of finishing work as per the deadline, he was kept away from taking over the project. Isn’t it obvious that he wouldn’t be allowed to undertake any such projects, or how else will the politicians survive?

I haven’t taken a ride on the Bangalore metro yet, but i am looking forward to the test drive and will come back with my view or review of the metro and its functioning ๐Ÿ™‚

oN a rAINy dAy!

I love the pitter patter of the rain drops…..The strange but familiar smell of the wet mud….the droplets on green leaves and the dark clouds…..With spring bidding adieu (in Bangalore it is spring most of the times) and monsoon knocking the door, poor summer dint get its share this time. But for a change Bangalore was surprisingly pretty hot in the month of March. It reached upto 38 degrees which is like soaring hot considering that Bangalore’s climatic conditions are very good and not extreme like other states.

A few observations & incidents that took me by surprise ๐Ÿ™‚

There is a cute little 5 months old pup opposite my home, he kept starig at the sky when it started drizzling. I was wondering why and what was he doing, but then realised that it was his first rain ๐Ÿ™‚

Bangalore weather sometimes behaves crazy, like eccentric! I remember there was this one day when it drizzled for 2 minutes and then would be sunny and this kept repeating for some 2 hours.

Bangalore used to be called the garden city. Very soon it will be called gardenless city as trees are being uprooted right left and center.

Malls are opening up every other month…..So people are more prone to spending time in Malls shopping and watching movies than socializing.

Auto drivers in Bangalore will always charge you over and above the meter whether it is morning, noon, evening or night. Big cheaters!

Well like everyother developing city, Bangalore too is loosing its charm and is becoming too commercial. Well can’t do mcuh about it!

Bangalore vs Mumbai

Ya there is no song composed on Bangalore…..so what?

What’s the big deal if the deadline is 11.30 pm in Bangalore where as one can party whole night in Mumbai…

If there’s party culture in Mumbai, there is Rock culture in Banglaore….Bangalore may not have great disco discotheques, but it has rocking Pubs.

Bangalore has witnessedย  greatest rock concerts ever right from Iron maiden to Aerosmith to Scorpions to Deep Purple unlike Mumbai where Enrique and Beyonce concerts take place where the crowd is half the size of the rock concerts.

Infosys

Well if Mumbai is the financial capital of the country, Bangalore is the IT hub of the country.

Mumbai has style and bollywood, but Bangalore has time and family.

What if Ramasena went crazy in Bangalore, Mumbai has its share of Shiv sena every now and then.

We may not have local trains to commute, but we have amazing volvo buses.

raodside

Bangalore may not be surrounded by water or sea, but the city is full of trees and lush greenery….It is called the ‘Garden City’ of the country…

Bangalore may not be home to bollywood stars but is the residence of one of the greatest business tycoons of the country-Vijay Mallaya….

UB city

Bangalore may not have tall buildings, but has beautiful bungalows. Well there are many things and aspects about the city which cannot be captured in this post. One must visit to experience the beauty and charm of this city.

Well this post is dedicated to the beautiful city ‘Bagalore’.

15th Feb ’09……I could never be as excited as I was this year……….IRON MAIDEN, my favorite heavy metal rock band was for the 3rd and last time performing in India. The previous two times that they performed in India, I missed it….Oh GOd! I was so damn excited as I was going to see them perform live…..Bruce Dickinson, lead vocalist with his mind blowing voice was there right in front of my eyes……… I was surrounded with gals and guys wearing IRON maiden tees including me……….WOW……….It was so thrilling…….. Blood was gushing in my body from my heart and I was already high(PS :- I don’t booze)……..

bruce

Sharp at 8.00 pm, the lights went off and the stage was lit, the screen opened, and there our man, Bruce opened the show with the song ‘ACES HIGH’……It was mind blowing……..All I could do is just scream my lungs out and jump and sing the song…..This was their world tour, and they named it “Somewhere back in time” form one of their album Somewhere in time….Then the other songs that they performed on were: 2 Minutes to Mid-night, Run to Hills, The Number of the Beast, Phantom of the Opera Hallowed be thy name and Fear of the Dark……..All in all it was an awesome experience, felt the exuberance …..

The only thing that I missed was the presence of my sister……..Anyway as a compensation, I offered to fly her down to Bangalore for any rock concert that takes place. Not 1 but two ……

That is of course me at the concert………val

1 year as a PR Professional……

Wow……I completed a year on the 14th of January 2009 as a PR Professional in my organization (Hanmer MS&L)….It was a great year………With scary, weird, senseless, great clients, it has been a amazing year with a lot of exposure, learning and of course honing my skills with every passing day…I think the best achievement that I made apart from all the great work I’ve done for my clients, is that I got promoted the very next month after completing my 6 months of probation……..Of course I am happy and think its an achievement, this being my first job……….

First 3 months were really crazy and I was just thrown amidst loads of work with no idea how to execute each task assigned…Of course all thanks to my immediate senior who helped me understand the nitty-gritty of the PR industry and how to service the clients……But the 5th month of my job took a 360 degree turn and today I am performing better that people who have spend like 3-4 years in this industry……Yeah it may sound like I am boasting about myself, but very seldom do we get a chance do that…Don’t we? From basic executable of sending the updates to the client, I have now risen up to working on planning and strategizing as to take my client’s brand ahead……Gives me a real great feel & a kick every day to come to work and discover that I am just not doing the monotonous stuff………I get this satisfaction when I see my boss just blindly trusting me and not interfering with my decision on the clients I handle…..Amongst the various clients that I handle, the only client I hate to work with is Discovery channel….Though the client is based out of Delhi, I take care of all the activities in Bangalore. Initially when I was assigned to work for Discovery, I was so happy because it is a big brand top work with and of course an experience that would help me grow….Yes all of that did happen , but the unwanted pressure that is created on the people working for Discovery channel is damn irritating and is insane……But yes at the end of the day it is my client, so have to perform……

Apart from work, my office is really full of lively, fun loving and great people, which makes the work atmosphere really splendid…..And of course few of my work buddies are Rock music fans, which makes it all the more fun while we play the music and work……

Well this journey has so far been great and I hope it continues to be the same!
