Determined to live!

Life is the greatest gift of God to the Universe and to mankind…..The very fact that we are formed from a single cell fascinates me and makes me say over and over again, Life definitely has to be a miracle.

Humans were meant to live for so much more, and that’s why we are the supreme being and rule over the plant and animal kingdom. This post is inspired by the movie 127 hours .

I often think are we destined to certain things in life? Or is it like mentioned in the novel The Alchemist, when you want to achieve something, the entire universe conspires towards it. There are philosophers and religious people who believe that we are born with certain pre-destined things where we have no choices like the family we are born in, our blood group, our religion, our sex…..ooops we can now make a choice there :P…well here I mean no offense to anybody…..Straight or other wise :)…And then there are the others who believe that our circumstances, our lives and destiny can me moulded according to our convenience. I am of a different opinion. I believe that while there are certain aspects of one’s life that cannot be changed, there are certain things that can definitely be worked out if one has the determination and the will power to do it.

All the while that I was watching 127 hours, there was this one thought that kept hitting my mind over and over again, “What if Aron would have just given up?” It was his sheer will to live and never give up attitude that helped him survive for 5 days under that boulder in a canyon in Utah., without food and 400 ml of water. The movie takes you into a journey where you meet this young mountain climbing enthusiast who loves adventure, exploring new places and is daring enough not to leave a message behind about his whereabouts. Another wonderful thing about this movie is that it makes you at least ponder over the fact that there are times when we do not value our loved ones and gift of people around us. Aron hallucinates about his parents, his girlfriend, his friends, but to his dismay they are far away. On the fifth day he finally decides to cut his arm and escape which he successfully does. And this incident did not stop him from undertaking adventures. He continues to be a mountain climber :). This movie is definitely inspiring 🙂

Most of us often give up very easily or blame our destiny. I would say someone with the “Never give up attitude and fight to survive” is blessed. Not many people can stand the test of time and survive, because it is of course easy to give up.

Touturing Nature…Why?

“Nature is not human hearted” – Lao Tzu.

We love the ever growing modern world we are living in…Who wouldn’t?  So what if nature has to a pay price for it.  Our lives are so busy, who the hell has the time to think about what is happening to our ecology?

A small observation – In the office if we take a look around we will be stunned to notice the amount of things made of paper we use. But well, who cares! Resources are there to be utilized. But what about when these resources are exhausted?

A recent study revealed, 4 billion trees are cut down every year for paper, which accumulates to 35% of the total trees. We are definitely disturbing the ecological balance and for sure are going to pay a price for it. But then at the moment who cares. Demand arises, supply increases and wants are fulfilled.

I travel by bus every day and a few days ago I noticed old and huge trees on either sides of the road being cut down. Reason being, road expansion. Of course a very valid reason to curb the traffic problem which is highly unlikely. I felt horrified but then  I can only do my bit to save trees. Most of us seldom realise that every little bit we do will help save nature. Since paper is available free of cost in the office we lavishly use it. Not even thinking once that natural resources are going to get exhausted some day. We keep littering places, men especially peeing on trees. Just imagine someone coming to your house and peeing on the walls.

Nature bestows its love, care and affection on us to get only ungrateful and insensitive hearts in return. We of course can’t go around planting saplings but yes we can at least do our bit and not waste products made out of trees.

This post is dedicated to Mother Nature for taking care of us and loving us unconditionally.

New Year ….2011

At the very outset let me wish all of you a very very happy and blessed New year :).

New year, new beginning, new resolutions, new outfits, new fashion trends etc etc and a never ending list of new things and newbies. I often ponder, yes my mind never rests even for a minute or to put it in the words of Russel Peters ” A woman can never stop thinking”, days pass by, weeks fly, month comes to an end so does a year. Most of us follow a routine and let life lead us, which of course is not a bad thing to do. The only thought that plays on my mind most of the time is, what is it that will make this year more meaningful?

A regular day in a person’s life would be going to work and returning. Most of our times are spent in juggling between office and home. Here I should mention Madhavi, Shouvik & Adithi my great friends who just don’t waste their talents. Madhavi paints, Shouvik explores nature and beautiful places through his photography, while Adithi is a theater artist.

We often bury our God gifted talents once we step out of school or college making our careers the first priority which should be the case. But then we often forget that after a certain age we will not be able to even remotely think about them.

The first two days before the new year and a couple of days after the new year 2011 ushered in, all the news papers kept flashing new year’s resolutions. From bollywood stars, to school going kids they had it all, ringing in the new year with a variety of resolutions. And of course how can the media not be the add on…Newspapers even suggested new year resolutions to some of the most controversial actors and actresses…Contrary to this there are many people who don’t wait for the new year to for a resolution or make a new beginning, and I am one among them.

On that note I shall say, its always good to start and indulge in something which you always wanted to. Try and make this year more meaningful, so that when you turn back the pages of your life, you will have a sense of satisfaction, that your explored your talents to the best 🙂
