Bangalore vs Mumbai

11 May

Ya there is no song composed on Bangalore… what?

What’s the big deal if the deadline is 11.30 pm in Bangalore where as one can party whole night in Mumbai…

If there’s party culture in Mumbai, there is Rock culture in Banglaore….Bangalore may not have great disco discotheques, but it has rocking Pubs.

Bangalore has witnessed  greatest rock concerts ever right from Iron maiden to Aerosmith to Scorpions to Deep Purple unlike Mumbai where Enrique and Beyonce concerts take place where the crowd is half the size of the rock concerts.

Well if Mumbai is the financial capital of the country, Bangalore is the IT hub of the country.

Mumbai has style and bollywood, but Bangalore has time and family.

What if Ramasena went crazy in Bangalore, Mumbai has its share of Shiv sena every now and then.

We may not have local trains to commute, but we have amazing volvo buses.

Bangalore may not be surrounded by water or sea, but the city is full of trees and lush greenery….It is called the ‘Garden City’ of the country…

Bangalore may not be home to bollywood stars but is the residence of one of the greatest business tycoons of the country-Vijay Mallaya….

UB city

Bangalore may not have tall buildings, but has beautiful bungalows. Well there are many things and aspects about the city which cannot be captured in this post. One must visit to experience the beauty and charm of this city.

Well this post is dedicated to the beautiful city ‘Bagalore’.

Here are some more facts –

    1. Dharavi, the largest slum on Mumbai, is more prosperous than Bangaluru.

    2. If Dharavi were to not exist, mallaya would be poor as alcohol sales of his companies would be down by 50%.

    3. Bombay had the ONLY Michael Jackson concert in India – The turn out was large enough for 2 of Bangaluru type rock concerts.

    4. IIT Mumbai has a covert rock concert that lasts for 3 days. There is also Indi-Rock – a rock concert of Indian bands held every year. We just dont speak about it as we dont want people from Bangaluru to come and spoil the event. 😀

    5. Bangaluru may be the IT hub, but India’s largest IT company… make that ASIA’s largest IT company has HQ in Bombay.

    6. SEEPZ in Bombay was made much before Bangaluru became the IT hub. (If u dont know SEEPZ, google it)

    7. If the city shuts down at 11.30, there would be enough time for family, right? [ha ha ha]

    8. We dont need volvos, there is a reason the bombay buses are called BEST. Its not just an acronym.

    9. Ever been to Hanging gardens in Bombay? I guess not.

    10. Ambani and Tatas live in Bombay. Mallaya comes to visit them bcoz they dont like to go to Bangaluru.

Btw, I am not saying Bangaluru is not good, but it will not become better by berating Bombay. Certainly, no other city can be Bombay. Each city has its own charm. Its just that Bombay has it more than any other city in India. Its so alive, it never sleeps! It just ROCKS! Only a Bombaite can understand that… everyone else just passes thru…

Lol … Not only I loved your post, but I also enjoyed EISI’s comments 🙂
I have been to Bangalore only once in my life till now and that too during my teens so I hardly have any memories from down there…. But yes, I am pretty much aware of all the facts and stories in and out of Bangalore and Bombay … But I really cannot comment on which one’s better as for me lol, my home city, Ahmedabad is always going to be a step ahead of other cities 🙂 …
But as of now I am in total love with the Valley (Silicon) here … The bay area is my utmost love along the lines of Ahmedabad 🙂 … I also have Los Angeles my abode for 3 years on my list … So I guess it would be Ahmedabad, Los Angeles, San Jose and then other cities I guess lol …

Its not THE happening place.. If we get stuck in traffic Jam, we say, Its better than Hosur Road. Thank God you are not in Blore… Ive never heard of a COSMO city which has open drains all throughout the city…

Bombay is dirty city , smelling all over. We dont know what language they speak. every where you go is slums. Bangalore is home for educated people , where as bombay is full of bhaiyas , theives and rude people. We Infosys , wipro sun micro and name any body. Bombay is sweating through out the year stinking people. Never would bombay be like bangalore full of cultured and decent people educated to the best.

  23. delhiitie

    June 26, 2009 at 2:15 pm

this one for all mum’bai’kars or slumbaikars. im from delhi n hv been to slum city of india . need not to mention, such a smelly stinking city is india’s financial capital??? before landing at the airport instead of trees we see jhuggis all around. i hv been to BLR and found it a decent city.much much better modern and livable city as compare to that slum. mumbai is not even worth discussing.

  24. Andy

    June 27, 2009 at 9:33 pm

Why compare B`lore to Bombay ? you cannot compare Mangoes and Bananas.

For instance Bombay is more like New York, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Whereas Bangalore is like Frankfurt, San Fransisco, Singapore.

  25. Valerine

    June 29, 2009 at 8:03 am

    @ Shahan…Agree with you

@Delhiitie – Wow that was a good one!

@ Andy- Well I wanted to highlight the good things about B’lore and the sad things about Mumbai and hence the comparison

  26. Spike

    June 29, 2009 at 1:25 pm

@ Andy….. Bombay is like foreign to Balglorites … hence they take such pot-shots @ it time and again…. btw, I like your comparison of the cities…. each one has its own charm…. well said.

@ sahan, In bombay, ppl will stop and tell u directions. In b’lore, they wont even respond if u speak in the national lingo. Btw, what does “We Infosys , wipro sun micro and name any body. ” mean? Its not even a proper sentence, and u call urself ‘educated’…. LMAO!!! btw, till what time do pubs remain open in this ‘decent’ city? and when is the last movie show held? just curious…

@ delhiite, lol .. even with the ‘jhuggis’, its still safe @ 11 pm for a girl to walk on the streets… unlike delhi – can we call it the rape capital of India?

I think Andy has got the essence of Bombay…. a place where ppl – both rich n poor can live side by side.

  27. delhiite

spike…. as far as rapes are concerned, whole nation knows what happened at the new year party girl-ten guys, yo…thats safe!!!!! and as far as i remember 26/11 happened in ……anyways. u r right spike, in mumbai rich and poor live side by side litreally. a 40 storied building between 400 jhuggis. peep out your balcony and see the heaven. hahaha mumbai teri jaan.

spike. u r so proud of ur night life entertainment options.right……
    now take this
blr has the biggest multiplex in india(11 screens) and coming soon with another two 11 screens, a 13 screen, a 15 screen, and a 21 screen multiplexs .
blr has the biggest amusment park in the country(wonder la) which is also considered to be the best.
blr has the biggest film city (innovative film city)
blr has the biggest artificial heated wave pool in india.
blr will soon have the biggest bowling alley in country(blu-o with 29 lanes).
blr has some biggest showrooms in the world like lee, levis, dockers, wrangler etc
blr will soon have the biggest mall in country (global mall 28lakh sft)
etc etc etc. hard to belive???? i know but,,, belive it…

    now lets talk about infrastructure
u will promptly discuss your only proud bw sealink. i know…
bwsl is only 6 km long wit 8 lanes. right…
    now take this also
blr will soon have a 10 km long flyway with 4 lanes(elevated) and 10 lanes (grounded) making it a 14 lane expressway. broadest in the country n driving throu it will be free.
blr has 5 ring roads 3 operational and 2 underconstruction. maximum in india.
and other small projects like metro rail, monorail, high speed rail link to airport which are underconstruction are just lolly pops…..

now let me not start with delhi , otherwise u will die of shame.

so spike except the defeat ,gracefully.

Multiplexes in blr close at 11 pm… last show at 8 pm… lol.. sounds like a bunch os retirees live there.. obviously the night life would suck unless your are 65… then its great.

Bombay has essel world long back

blr has the biggest film city – thats why SRK, Amitabh and any known film star worth his mettle stays in bombay… ha ha ha….wait a minute.. ha ha ha

blr has the biggest artificial heated wave pool in india…. so?
blr will soon have the biggest bowling alley in country(blu-o with 29 lanes)…. ya ya… bombay has its share of bowling alleys .. ages ago.

blr has some biggest showrooms in the world like lee, levis, dockers, wrangler etc….. so? the 1st mall in india started in bombay …. i need not say more….

blr will soon have the biggest mall in country (global mall 28lakh sft)… so?

    now lets talk about infrastructure
u will promptly discuss your only proud bw sealink. i know…
bwsl is only 6 km long wit 8 lanes. right…

Even if i dont count the sealink, bombay STILL has more bridges than blr.

now let me not start with delhi , otherwise u will die of shame.
really? ha ha ha. Delhi sucks. Even with the infrastructure development in NOIDA (not a part of Delhi), it still sucks.

  32. Spike

    July 6, 2009 at 10:19 pm

As for rapes… I have friends in Delhi – they say “A girl shd not venture out on her own after 8 pm” How safe is that? Its the capital… isnt it?

As far as friendliness is concerned, Raj thackrey is not the only person in bombay. There are 10 cr. others too. In delhi if u make a phone call from a PCO, they charge u 2 rs and even lie for it. Such honesty I tell you 🙂

As for security, Bombay is still more secure than Delhi. Isnt it in Delhi that the parliament bldg was breached a few yes back? lol…
The attacks in bombay happened in public places – not in high secure govt. bldgs.

As for shanties in bombay – i have 2 words for you – puraani delhi! ROTFL!!

As for security – the blr commissioner said recently that the 8 pm multiplex deadline was fixed to reduce crime..huh??? since when do u find criminals in movie halls after 8 pm… guess they must be from delhi! oh wait, they must be! coz they are criminals 😛

And i’m sure its bcoz bombay has jhuggis thats why Ambanis stay there and have also build a private building thats among the best in the world. lol.

And didnt the ram sena incident happen in Blr? lol! No dancing in discs! How trendy! Need I say more?

You should know that there is a reason why 1 city in India pays 40% of the COUNTRY’s taxes! Its coz its number 1…!! There is a reason its called financial capital.

Everyone knows BOMBAY stock exchange… how many know DSE? lolz!

Even worldwide, no one knows banglore and Delhi as much as they know Bombay.

Guess you should take that milk bbottlee out of ur mouth and venture out a bit .. try visiting bombay.. u’ll feel like ur in a foreign country!

    why r u getting hyper??? chill……
the way you are taking things forward, it seems you are feeling some kind of inferiority complex. non of your details are proving anything good for your slum. so chill….
seems like you haven’t visited abroad . just ask any one in europe or US about mumbai and bangalore, you will get your answer, for sure. try that…
only bangalore is the indian city who’s efficiency has given sleepless nights to president of america and also u.

    in mumbai 10cr people??? thats a news….
mumbai had essal world looong back
it is still looooong backward from wonderla.
mumbai has bowling alley since long??? ok…
    but not before bangalore.
chennai had the first mall in the country(spencer plaza)
delhi had the first modern mall in country (ansal plaza)
bangalore had the biggest showroom in the world (kemp fort)
    loooooooong loooooooong ago.

spike … first correct ur informations and data.
it seems like you have never stepped out of your well

i gave u a lot of information of bangalore and u did so so so????
u said that apart from sea link u have other bridges… ok…
which are those???? or you should wait till they r made

    if delhi sucks, mumbai _ucks…
who told u that only noida has good infrastructure…
thats what im saying…. step out of that slum and see around . delhi and bangalore are more developed to what u can’t even imagine.
who says dancing makes you trendy???
seems like mumbai’s tring hard to be trendy.

    after all i read about u spike…
it seems like u r left with no other topics apart from nightlife, ambanis and safety.but thats not enough for to prove what u want to..

i’ll tell u some more hard hitting facts….
    take this
    area of mumbai is and
    which is bigger???? keep thinking:-0
population of bangalore is almost half of that of mumbai
no. of vahicels in bangalore is more than double than in mumbai
facts r facts….. belive it or not:-)

spike … from next time just gather some information as backup to support ur argument other wise u will fool ur self..

bottomline- mumbai is nothing but an over hyped city struggling to keep its hype alive.

Perhaps you very conveniently ignored the financial aspect – thats the one which makes the city ROCK! everything else comes with the money flow… ever hear the adage “follow the money and you follow prosperity” thats why Bombay is Bombay and every other city is an “also ran”…

Flyovers… you surely should pay a visit to bombay and see for yourself. The things is…. when you have so many cool things, you dont hype them like its done in other places bcoz these things are common to ppl of bombay.

And its not petriotic… its spelled as pAtriotic…. perhaps its a Delhi thing … Do they have spell check there? lol

    thanks for that lesson
but get better lessons on hindi atleast
if u dont find a good teacher there, than come to delhi
    i think u didn’t read the full information i gave to u
    read again…..
(no. of vahicels in bangalore is more than double than in mumbai)
    in detail…
no. of vahicels in delhi about 42 lakhs
    in bangalore 32 lakhs
and in mumbai its poor 16 lakhs
so just think and say where money is…..
read properly what i mentioned in the starting
that i have been to mumbai not once but several times….
and was failed to get impressed …
seems like ur mumbai has nothing more to discuss..
i have still not mentioned the great historic mumbai flood,1993 blasts and local train blast….
mumbai has more cons and less pros

no harsh feelings bud! I live in Mumbai and I have been to Bangalore tonnes of times, known a lot good people in both cities and have had best of foods in both cities as I used to work for one of the greatest business tycoons of the country-Vijay Mallaya (Owner of the hottest cabin crew in air & loss making airline company Kingfisher Airlines)…so i know the pros and cons.. the reasons that you have mentioned above on why Bangalore is better than Mumbai.. damn dude with sigh… this is the most stupid non sense shit that i have ever read when it comes to comparison especially between Mumbai and Bangalore.. they just have their own charm and feel.. u cant compare it… they are soo different from each other in all aspects… One is a Financial Capital and the other is a Garden City.. how could u compare and bitch about the other when there are no similarities at any level… dude u gotta take it easy on this trip… u got a lot to explore in India is what I can gather and conclude after i have read ur biblical work on Bangalore Vs Mumbai. U gotta see a lot more of this country to know what cities, people and culture is all abt in this nation.. oh by the way try travelling around.. U are in a for definite surprise…Enjoy!!!

Valerine, from what you said, I thought this blog about Bangalore was years old – I find it was only 2 months ago! Could the change in impression be because we moved from the Equinox to the Solcite!!!

Sounds biblical, byut seek and you shall find. I like the energy of Mumbai, the power of Lutyen’s Delhi, the easey ways of Kolkata, the wide vistas of Chandigarh, the bustle of an Ahmedabad evening, the somnolence of Kottayam, the stay-away-from-me indifference of Chennai, the life-moving-too-fast-to-comprehend bewilderment of Hyderabad (and Kochi for that matter) and the forever-welcome-to-the-tourist Jaipur. I have been jostled, pushed, wooed, ignored, hustled, charmed, guided, gazed at, misled and fawned on – and found my perception was shaped quite a bit by what I felt like myself, too.
I hold a candle for Bangalore for a few exclusive attributes – one can find every tongue acccepted, spoken, understood; one can find every type of food; the weather is a cliche; scrounging is rare, and gluttony is not yet an exalted virute; a newcomer is not threatened by the environment and there is always someone one has known or heard about around. Even if they spell your name incorrectly…..!!!!
Like Cromwell said abhout himself – like it as I am, warts and all!!!

hey everybody, i jus came across this blog and lemme tell you its one of the most ‘hot’ discussed topic i have come across.. would like to put some facts from my side:-).. p.s. “only facts” and no comments on them..

-number of inhabited buildings declared as dangerous or dilapidated in Mumbai:
    19,000 [BBC; Sep 2005]

-highest number of street children are in Delhi: 9,00,000 estimate [BBC; Sep 2005]

-highest contribution to the total population by a metro:
population of Bangalore approx 2 decades ago: approx 2 million
    – current population of Bangalore: approx 8 million [BBC, Jan 2006]

    – loss of female births within past 2 decades caused by abortion and sex selection:
estimate of more than 10 million. Delhi contributed .8 million which is the highest by the metro [BBC, Jan 2006]

    – most polluted river flowing through a metro in world: Yamuna(Delhi) (July 2003)

    – number of vehicles per km in Mumbai: 591 [BBC; Sep 2005]

    – number of cars in Bangalore (Karnataka): 1.95 million cars (Bangalore’s population is 6.5 million people) [BBC Sep 04]
    – * number of vehicles on Bangalore’s road: 5 million [BBC Jan 07]

    – people in Mumbai living in shanty towns, open spaces, or on pavements: 50% of Mumbai’s population [BBC, Nov 2005]

-Largest Indian cities: Bombay (Mumbai) (2000 est.), 17,850,000 (metro. area); Calcutta (2000 est.), 12,900,000 (metro. area); Madras (Chennai) (2000 est.), 6,600,000 (metro. area); Hyderabad (2000 est.), 6,650,000 (metro. area); Bangalore (2000 est.), 5,500,000 (metro. area); Ahmedabad, 4,150,000; Kanpur, 1,874,409.

-Three Indian cities, the national capital New Delhi, financial capital Mumbai and a south Indian metropolis Chennai are among the 10 worst cities in the world to be working in, said a recent survey conducted by an international consultant institution.

finally i can say, even though all the Indian metro cities have their own drawbacks, its unique like its own identity. instead of pinning down on each other we should try understanding the common draw backs because there are many and only very little has been done about it. if we take care of those common problems we can be like other world class cities.. after all we have every thing to be the best and we are the generation which will make it the best:-)..

-Delhi is a historical metropolitan city and the capital of India. It’s a city that speaks volumes about India’s culture and it’s Unity in Diversity. Perhaps the only capital city in the world with people from different religions & cultures living together and yet maintaining their identity..
Mumbai falls in three categories: metropolitan, harbor and business. Mumbai pulsates with activity. It is a city that is disciplined by no time frame-neither by day nor night. Mumbai is also the country’s financial powerhouse, the nation’s industrial heartland, and its economic nerve centre.
Bangalore, bustling capital of Karnatka , is a unique combination of old world charm and modern rapid lifestyle. Conferred with the twin titles of the Garden City and Silicon Valley of India and it has truly lived up to it…possibly the only city in India to do justice to it. isn’t it?? 😉

    To all the Bombaywalas-

There’s no way that Bombay can be better than bangalore . As we have everything in bangalore that mumbai has . But offcourse you have the local train, but again we are soon getting a Metro in Bangalore .

I have lived 10 years in Bombay and they surely were amazing times. But then i lived in bangalore for 13 years so i love bangalore . Currently i am residing in London .

Now to compare the two cities

Bangalore has an excellent weather – Cold and windy days , with green trees and parks . Whereas bombay is really humid something that no one would like .

Bangalore looks much more cleaner compared to Mumbai . Bombay is in complete havoc state with utter confusion .

Bangalore when emerging was considered at a point the fastest growing city in the world and this happened from the 1996 to 2000 .

Bangalore has the best education standards . It was considered the educational capital but nowadays every other city has taken our formula and used it to their best ( which is good ).

Bangalore has the highest english speaking people in India . And thats exactly why the call centers and BPO’s came to us . If you see all the major call centres are situated in bangalore . Mumbai population i consider is lagging behind in terms of good english and accents as there’s always a marathi or the hindi touch to it.

Mumbai has bollywood – Bangalore surely doesn’t have that .

Mumbai grew because of the british, as the roads the flyovers the Local train , the chatrapati terminus was all made by them . Whereas bangalore has grown because of the bangalorean . We came up quick and we came up ourselves .

Bangalore was called the Pub capital too , because of the numerous pubs we had and also the fashionable people that enjoyed the Pubs . Also our night clubs play good house music unlike the stupid bollywood music that bombay night clubs play and also the best DJ of India [ DJ IVAN ] lives in bangalore . Mumbai was once a sea of oppurtunities for Indians from everywhere but today bangalore has caught up bombays standards and now we see people from bombay coming to bangalore . I can say this becasue during my graduation days many of my college mates were from mumbai and other cities . Now why did they come here , they came here for the quality for the style for the education . I would certainly not agree if anyone says bangalore is not at par with mumbai , I feel we are much better . I love bangalore . We are classy people .

Bombay is cool just like us but surely not better than us .

this is crazy man.. you just cant compare both the cities..come on just look up the facts on the net and you will find equal number of drawbacks.. may be more than u can expect from bengaluru as well as mumbai.. instead of sitting in london and firing those drawbacks try doing something about for making your cities your pride globally..

    that applies to all…..

why do ppl need to pull others down to get up themselves.. Bangalore may be good.. bt how does that make you so pretentious n conceited abt it.. I wont comment on Bangalore cuz I don know it to be frank.. nor I feel that I need to degrade a city to make my home sound superior.. thats lame n silly..

you kno I have always believed that South Indians have a false sense of sef worth (I may be generalizing, bt then this generalization fits in 100% of the cases (small sample space of ppl) I kno frm these areas .. they think they are always right, the world is wrong n the likes frm personal experience..

I love Mumbai(Bombay) coz its just not a city, its a spirit, a spirit of being one, of being urself, you can find the entire country in the single local compartment, thrs a bihari, Gujarati, marathi, punjabi, assami, bengali in the same compartment of course thr is occasional Thackeray, but who cares, and yes we do have Bhaiyyas and we are proud of them, in mumbai we do not restrict a hindi movie to oly play in 22 theaters, nor do we stop screening of other language movies on Kannada Rajyotsava day……Mumbai may not be the most richest city(yes we do have Dharavi) it may not have the rock bands, may not have the biggest mall or bowling, or multiplex but it showcase the entire country in one city…….Mumbai teaches you to run, to utilize every second of your life, ……it tells you if you are ready to work hard, opportunities are ample…..sorry abt my english as i m not an educated Bangalorean..:)

I was born in mumbai and lived in bangalore ever since, for 24 years, and even I can say you are the usual conservative frog in a well south indian (before u scream racist, i’m south indian too!) just go and see mumbai, its 24 hour city, not the lame city that goes to sleep at 9 in the night like bangalore, people are more liberal and open minded in mumbai unlike the conservative south indian culture… i dont wish to say anymore, lets just summarise that mumbai is 10 times more powerful economy wise and it is the commercial lifeline of india. due respect to bangalore for its good weather and reasonably soft lifestyle. but mumbai is mumbai.

I’ve stayed in Mumbai all my life, and am on the verge of shifting to Bangalore in a couple of months for professional reasons. Hence was checking out this post. The post and the comments have given me all the reasons why I should not stay in Bangalore… or in Delhi for that matter (I’ve visited both Delhi and Bangalore a number of times, but never stayed there for more than a week at a stretch).

Its only natural that I would be comfortable staying at Mumbai (I’ve always lived here)… and I gather that the shift is going to be extremely difficult. So guys, pls give me reasons on what makes Bangalore a good city to live in (without demeaning Mumbai or any other city, of course). Am not looking for a comparison… am just looking for positives that Bangalore has to offer for a person making a shift (and I mean serious day to day matters, and not limited pubs/discs/malls/multiplexes).

Mover, rest assured that the city you propose to move to will not disappoint you. The climate is excellent, and the people are a good lot to live amidst. Language is never a problem – an average Bangalorean will understand at least 3 languages including Hindi & English.
You will find all kinds of shops and outlets for you daily needs, and other services like hospitals and clinics are numerous. Schools and colleges are very good, and competitive. There is an eclectic choice of recreational activities, without the costs and distances being as difficult as in Mumbai.
The main minus is the traffic – I find Mumbai no different now. Too many vehicles on the roads, and hence slow-moving traffic.
On the evidence of my Mumbaikar friends who moved in over the past 4 decades and never felt like going back, I can extend a warm welcome to you – leave your worries behind.
For the times when nostalgia overwhelms you, there is the “Maharashtra Mandal”…….

I went through this entire blog as well as the comments and to be frank I find this very amusing that people are actually comparing different cities which are unique in their own sense.
I am from Bombay (I still prefer calling it Bombay and not Mumbai) and have lived almost my entire life here, but I have travelled a lot and have stayed in Bengaluru and in New Delhi.
These are the Pros and Cons of Bombay, New Delhi as well as Bengaluru. (According to me)

    Pros of Bombay:
    • 24 hour uninterrupted power supply
    • Efficient Transportation
    • Safe for girls at night
    • Traffic rules are observed
    • Hotels, Shops, Restaurants are open till very late night, in-fact till early morning
    • Financial Capital of the Country
    • Hail a Cab Facility (of course Meru and other fleet operators are present but nothing beats the Black and Yellow)

    Pros of Bengaluru:
    • Excellent Climate
    • IT Capital
    • The Bengalore City Buses are very good (since 2003 or 2004)

    Pros of New Delhi:
    • Very Vast Roads
    • Capital of the Country
    • Delhi Metro is the best in the country
    • Very Green City with lot of open spaces

    Cons of Bombay:
    • Lot of Slums (Although that does not make the City Bad..but yes aesthetically it is an eye sore)
    • Not enough jobs for fresh college pass-outs
    • The road conditions in Bombay are deteriorating by the minute.

    Cons of Bengaluru:
    • Infrastructure not planned to and unable to cope with the development of the city
    • Frequent Power Cuts (Power Cuts in Electronic City too—totally unacceptable)
    • Irregular Water Supply (Most people have to depend on water tanker)
    • Rickshaw drivers are totally pathetic and night time charges actually starts at 8:30 ,9)
    • Bengaluru Airport is really very far from the city
    • City Bus penetration is not very great albeit Majestic is the Biggest and Best Bus station I have ever seen in India

    Cons of New Delhi:
    • Still uses archaic modes of transportation (e.g. Cycle Rickshaws just outside New Delhi station)
    • Power Supply is not something to sing about
    • Hooliganism is prevalent in Old Delhi (though Old Delhi has its own charm I like it a lot as I am into photography)
    • Weather in Delhi is pleasant during spring and autumn. (Summers and Winters can be very cruel)
    • The Local Trains of Delhi has pathetic class of travelers who are very abusive and very filthy.
    • Unsafe for Women compared to Bombay and Bengaluru.

Well I am a Bangalorean brought up in Mumbai. I feel that we are comparing two different cites having two different life styles with no two people having anything similar except for our nationality.

Bangalore is a great place to be in. There is calmness , great climate , Namma Metro , IT Hub. This is a place which is convienient for Senior citizens plus safe for girls. With India growing , we want both these cities plus the likes of N. Delhi to perform well at world level. I can assure you that Bangalore is a city which is among the best in the world.

And to everyone out der… i feel blessed to be born in this beautiful city! I take pride in calling myself a BANGALOREAN! Everybody feels that the city they grow up in his d best city! Pls leave comments only if u hv visited another city n really feel that its worth d comparison! I was in bombay way back in ’96 dont remember so i dont want to comment on it!

Hahahaha, it was good post for entertainment purpose. In this post you tried to compare Bangalore (Beta +) city with Mumbai (Alpha) city, that’s really funny.

    Source: Wikipedia
(I hope so you are aware of Wikipedia)

Well I would like to say all Bangalorean’s, ‘Develop your city first in terms of all aspects to stand in comparison with Mumbai’.

The real time fact is that a Bangalorean will try to compare his / her own city with Mumbai, but a Mumbaikar will not even think consider of his / her own city to be compared with Bangalore (Bengalaru). That sounds bitter, but it’s the truth.

I have many friends & relatives belonging to different linguistic & financial backgrounds who have left Bangalore at the first opportunity they got. A slow & costly city. And most importantly IT hub thing isnt gonna last long. IT companies, even Indian ones, are in look out for foreign shores for cheaper labour & better tax system. Then Bangalore will sure become a ruined city. Thats because you are one-dimensional & when the winds blow the other way … u r gonna fall!!!

    June 25, 2012 at 5:38 pm

Bangalore will ruin soon….the way population and pollution is increasing another 10 years are enough..Before comparing any cities kindly go and check the infrastructure expansion and population holding capacity of the city where mumbai is far much ahead of Bangalore.
As far as mumbai is considered it holds atleast 1 office of all the national/international companies which is some or the other way linked with India’s business economy irrespective of any fields.
The law and order in bangalore is more pathetic then ever.(witnessed it personally but this kind of corruption level is ther thruout India).
The biggesst sucking creatures in bangalore are the rick drivers…come to mumbai u’ll know the loyalty and law.And in this race even the bus drivers are not too far ..fckin they fluke people for 1-2 rs and dont give the tickets even after asking.
The only good thing about bangalore is its cool climatic atmosphere of which local bangalorian’s are already complaining as they have witnessed the change.

    Save bangalore… 🙂

    mayank….this is 4 u

    1)”loyal rick drivers”
“On september 19 2011 morning, as Mumbaikars prepared for their daily battle against rush-hour traffic, clusters of auto-rickshaws were seen parked in clusters at Kurla, Ghatkopar and Andheri – all without meters. Some auto drivers, assuming the meters had been confiscated by the RTO, gathered lathis and launched a flash strike.

As it turned out, those meters hadn’t been confiscated by authorities; the drivers had themselves given their meters to the mechanics in case the RTO came calling again.”

    2)best law and order
dats why there is so much of open violence in mum …..

3)if u know, mumbai has more populatn than blr…

4)i got my ticket in blr bus so i dont know wat u r talking bout….but wen i was in mum (ma aunt stays der) i saw many eve teasers in the bus…..

In the last quarter of the financial year 2012, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) saw a drop of 58 per cent in unit home sales, while the National Capital Region (NCR) experienced a similar 57 per cent plunge, compared to the same quarter a year ago, according to realty research firm PropEquity.
However, the one star performer amid this gloom was Bangalore, which saw a drop of just 18 per cent in the quarter, when the numbers were down significantly elsewhere. It’s not just in the residential market that Bangalore is on top. The city has also experienced the highest absorption in office space among major cities
Why is Bangalore performing better than other Indian markets?
A good range of products, seems to be one reasonPrices increase in Bangalore by 10-15 per cent in a year, unlike Mumbai or NCR, where prices go up like crazy

“Bangalore beat Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Calcutta to emerge as the leading city for its quality of life, according to the list compiled by global consultancy firm MERCER.Five Indian cities make the list, which Bangalore leads for quality of living and personal safety standards, a measure of stability and crime levels”

Hi Kim….i appreciate you that you have put forward documental evidences. yrs…….i am stayng in Mumbai now, i hv a mixed feeling….i stayed in bangalore for 5 years and each day was fun….crowd is awesome….i feel that bangalore has no sea side but who cares, how many days do som1 actually goes to sea side….and property rates, congestion is too much…..though ppl here are vry good……. but undoubtedly bangalore makes the best place in India of international standards….when you land at airport, while coming out only it feels relaxing…gardens and open spaces….unlike mumbai whr pubs are also over crowded, pitche cost 900 bugs, doesnt make sense….. I just love bangalore and if i get a chance i will like to go back and settle thr…… Mumbai is a place whr if sm1 is born here will like….but for bangalore few of my non indian friends say they miss bangalore when they are in their own country……………… CHEERS

Many facts well illustrated by people across the board regarding these two cities . Let us be open enough to admit that Bangalore deserve to be cleaner than mumbai because its a much newer city , mainly developed since the late nineties when IT Boom started . Mumbai has an altogether different heritage of its own .It has been in the limelight of India since ages since the time of independence after Kolkatta lost its charm . People have been very vocal regarding the dirtiness of Mumbai and I agree with each of them and I also believe there’s huge scope of cleanliness culture improvement in the city… but we need to realize the eternal truth that no city in India does provide so much job/career opportunities when compared to Mumbai ..U mention any stream , any profession, any working class..people get much better opportunities when they come to Mumbai .. so many people since independence have realised their dreams from Mumbai, rightly called the city of dreams . This is attributed to the immense spirit that this city has..where in india will we find people chatting with close ones on promenades ..wherein girls can freely walk around even at midnight with friends…Bangalore has risen the fastest in India and has made an image of its own in the world through its IT boom . Recent experiences have deteriorated though and my close ones have discussed issues regarding behaviour of low class people like auto rickshawallahs in Bangalore. Another area worth mentioning is the fact that Mumbai seem to have people from different castes enjoying their festivals more freely than in bangalore.I have seen bengalis performing jagadharti, saraswati puja in Koparkhairane ; whereas I have never heard my sister seeing anything other than Durga Puja in Bangalore.Bangalore’s mall culture is also very badly publicised now adays . Mmbai’s road side foods provide much more options to food lovers than in bangalore .
Last but not the least when I go to South Mumbai , I seem to be enjoying each and every aspect of it , the heritage buildings , Gateway,Marine drive , the multicuisine restoras. South Mumbai definitely is the best place of India to chill out . We should also remember the fact that where In India do we find Starbucks outlet , Rolls Royce , Lamborghini , Bentley showrooms ?My sis says Banaglore does not have even Costa Coffe outlets !! How can we also forget the beautiful drive over the ocean towards Alibaug & Ajanta ? Where do we find shuttle autorickshaws till late night in India ?

So all of us Indians should feel proud of our financial capital and stop comparing other cities and instead look to provide ideas to improve our own Mumbai and try to inculcate few traits of this city in other cities of India . Mumbai can be far far better than Shanghai if we stop criticizing it and instead discuss constructively highlight ideas to the top level through PMO @ twitter or likewise.

hi priyankush…i agree than mumbai is safe….biharis are very safe there…chat puja is celebrated better by raj ‘t’…..girls move out free…dat why keenan and reuben are still alive…rickshawallas are very honest and were thus caught by the police for hiding their meters (full report is provided above)….more career options are in the field that ‘mr doble’ is against….some poor girls cuming 2 mumbai to realise their dreams are given beter options only after going through an highly profesional interview called casting couch…..intead of going on a ride through marine drive plz take a ride in ur heaven called the local train….hey priyankush i will give u a better option ….instead of we collectively making mumbai better than shanghai,u stop critisising bangalore and we will make it better than california…hey by the way inprove ur spellings …u hv written banaglore instead of “bangalore”….this shows why call centres came to bangalore….

I never said anything bad against bangalore..its a fact that bangalore has caught attention of everybody due to its booming IT spreads..but as many eminent personalities have shared their views on why bangalore today is struggling to cope with its inorganic/exponential growth ahead of its infrastructure..and as Mr P chidambaram rightly said that Mumbai can give afield to everybody no denying the fact that Mumbai is much larger city , of course small compared to delhi . So bangalore has its limitations .. i hope bangalore gets its share of Pizza Corners, Starbucks & Roll royce outlets very soon ..after all thats what FDI is supposed to bring ..and lets also hope that Mumbai gets its share of Mono rail , AC trains , metros very soon .

“Air Pollution, Unclean Water & Rising Population Are Being Blamed For Mumbai Ending Up On The World’s Dirtiest List

    Sukhada Tatke | TNN

Mumbai: Are we that dirty? Yes, said several Mumbaikars, while also offering reasons for why Mumbai ended up seventh on a list of the world’s dirtiest cities. The list, compiled by Forbes, was based on Mercer Human Resource Consulting’s 2007 Health and Sanitation Rankings, which is part of a larger Quality of Living study.
Worrying was that Mumbai’s health and sanitation was ranked worse than even war-torn Baghdad’s, which was eighth on the list”

dear friend mumbai is not even comparable to baghdad….4get NY and SHANGHAI….nd peaking about women safety mumba ranks after delhi on rape charts…so i guess intead of just blaming delhi and blore for letting india down i think u’ll should learn to respect women 1st…..

This entire stuff is the projection of Bangalore’s jealousy to Mumbai as Bangalore has always been way back behind Mumbai all the times. Statistics say it all.

No one is against anyone or taking any side. But the question is why is it needed to create a page to prove something better than other. Whatever is better would be better. I wrote the stuff a little in an angry mode as we are unnecessarily comparing the things.

I had visited Bangalore a couple of months back and it looked really lush and green. The airport was definitely more organized. What I want to know is,is the greenery restricted to the areas of high court and vidhan sabha?

Bangalore has a pretty boring life. Having been here for 6 years you have only few malls, Brigade road, MG Road whereas have been to Mumbai and feel that you never get bored in Mumbai. There are so many places to go, Bangalore is a pub city but Mumbai has better quality pubs and have crowd from corporate, media, business, colleges etc whereas in Bangalore pubs most of the people are from IT.

People say Bangalore has a best weather but again it leads to cold and cough most of the times so it’s not healthy as you barely sweat whereas Mumbai may have a hot weather but I felt I had no stomach problems, headaches or cold or cough. This whole weather thing about Bangalore is a smoke screen.

Also in terms of food there are very few options in Bangalore there are people who sell chats and other things but just cannot compare with Bombay which has lot of things to try. And Roads lesser said better mentioned. It should be named a pot hole city. You wont find sinle road deprived of pot holes. Though Bombay and Delhi too have bad roads but Bangalore will surely top the list.

And rickshaw drivers, the worst in the entire country.

With low to medium level of incomes Bangalore is a good place to live whereas it’s not possible to live in Mumbai with an average income.

The Mumbai city is usually better than the bangalore
b’cause it don’t has any source of entertain ment with faimily (except Wonder’la) there is only 1 biggest water park in bangalore.
The Bangalore City Shutdowns at 11:30pm
the most biggest problem in this city is language if u know Kannada then it is ok but if u don’t know Kannada the locals will not care about u. The Auto rickshaw driver says whatever the meter shows u have to pay extra 20-30rs after traveling.

but in Mumbai the there are many water parks like Adlabs Imagica,Esselworld,Water Kingdom,Aqua Magica.etc.
the Mumbai City is an angel at night it never sleeps u can party whole night.
There is no. language problem in Mumbai it has its own language Marathi but then also everyone knows hindi as it is the language of India .
The Auto Rickshaw and Taxis in Mumbai are running on meter and u don’t have to pay extra.

I think mumbaikars dont have anything to show off its a city developed by britishers so nothing to boast of where as bangalore was developed by indians and Karnatakans (bangaloreans) look at tbe rate bangalore has developed its competing with a mumbai which is so called developed told by some uneducated peoples mumbai is less litrate than blore and mumbai may have night life but blore has its overnight work force which mumbai doesnt and will never have mumbai mah be city of dreams but blore is the silicon valley financial capital is no match blore is a smarter city than mumbai just because of bollywood and finance and blah blah shit mumbai is called cith of dreams other wise its nothin only people boast as if mumbai is new york or etc so foolish and uneducated behaviour cmon we live in india grow up u freaks.

Hi every one, I’m a creative artist and willing to settle in Mumbai for couple of years. I wish to reside near ‘Fort’ or any place within 10 KM radius. Any suggestions or comments?
